Dear Boacheng:
I have read your petition letter regarding the acceptance of your final exam marks in ECON 231 and ECON 331 (F 2022) and have carefully considered your request to receive Aegrotat Standing in those courses. After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny the request for Aegrotat standing in those courses, but will approve the acceptance of your exam grades based on the documentation you have submitted via this petition.
By way of this letter, I am asking Professor Keay to proceed with the grade changes in those courses since I have confirmed that there were legitimate extenuating circumstances in December 2022.
Going forward Boacheng, a good practise for all students is to carefully evaluate their progress in courses during week 7 of the term and if you are struggling in your courses or if your health is suffering, you should drop courses by the week 8 drop deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean’s decision to the Board of Studies, information and deadlines can be found at www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on “Board of Studies”). You may contact the Office of the University Ombudsperson for information about student rights and responsibilities https://www.queensu.ca/ombuds/appeal-process/procedural-fairness and guidance on policy and procedure by visiting their website at https://www.queensu.ca/ombuds/.
