As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.1 at queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ stress that petitions and appeals are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision. Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond a student’s control and debilitating to their academic performance.
I certainly empathize with your situation and understand that this is a disappointing decision, however I want to remind you that the petitions team attempted to connect with you through email for documentation to help support your request. With the absence of documentation to confirm that an unexpected extenuating circumstance prevented you from petitioning this course within the 1-year petition deadline, I cannot grant your request.
I see that you are currently taking PHYS 118 during the 2023 Summer term. You should know that your grade in this course will not replace your grade from PHYS 117 within your cumulative GPA. Only when repeating the exact same course code does the higher grade replace the lower grade within a student’s cumulative GPA.
