As part of the standard process when appealing to the Board of Studies, the Associate Dean (Academic) reviews your appeal submission again. I have carefully considered your appeal to late drop all Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 courses, and waive your requirement to withdraw for 1 year. I have reviewed your level 2 appeal including the new documentation you provided. Based on the new documentation I am compelled to grant your late drop and waive your requirement to withdraw allowing you to return as of September 2023 to part-time studies.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and since you have sought out help. But I need to caution you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage ongoing problems. The Appeal process is designed for students who encounter problems, or whose problems become acute, after the drop deadline. If you have ongoing issues, I strongly advise you to use the other tools Queen’s offers.
Other tools to manage your academics include dropping a course by the drop date deadline and our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Your progression will be assessed again after you have attempted another 18 units. I encourage you to take advantage of the resources above if needed and that your grades are stronger to avoid a requirement to withdraw for 3 years.
