I have carefully considered your appeal for Aegrotat Standing in DEVS 220 (S23). After reviewing your file, I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3. states that, " Aegrotat standing is reserved for a course in which a student who, because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the class…A student with extenuating circumstances who may be able to complete the remaining work in a class should consider a petition to extend the deadline to submit incomplete work or complete a deferred exam instead.”
I am sympathetic to your situation and I understand that this is a disappointing decision. The documentation that you supplied suggests that you would benefit from accommodations until July 31, 2023 however if fails to confirm the timeline and severity of your extenuating circumstances before that date. The information that I received from your instructor suggests that the teaching team of DEVS 220 did provide you with a great deal of support in this course. I see that you submitted a request for Academic Consideration in June which was withdrawn as you were referred to Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS). It is my understanding that your instructor did not receive an updated Letter of Accommodation from you and so were not able to accommodate you further.
At this time, I would suggest that you connect with your QSAS Advisor to ensure that your Letter of Accommodation is up to date. If they support your request for additional accommodations, you may also want to provide your updated Letter of Accommodation to your instructor to ask if they would be willing to allow you to complete the outstanding components of DEVS 220 at this late time.
Alternately, if you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
