Dear Stephanie Ferguson,

I have reviewed your petition to drop PHGY 170 (S23) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Your grade in this course will be replaced with a ‘DR’ notation on your transcript.

I have exercised some leniency in this decision as competing commitments such as working a job while taking classes is not considered to be an unexpected extenuating circumstance. I have granted this request due to the timeline and severity of your health-related circumstances as confirmed by the documentation you supplied. I would suggest that you consider registering with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) if you have not done so already, so that you obtain ongoing support from a Counsellor who can help manage the impact of your health on your academics.

Going forward you should know that it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes before the drop deadline of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by the deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
