Dear Julia Harmon:
I have carefully considered your request to take more than 6.0 units of courses away from Queen’s on an International Letter of Permission during the 2023/2024 academic year. After reviewing your file and the support that you supplied from your Department, I have decided to grant your request.
As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that “[normally] the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s”. I acknowledge the exceptional opportunity that you outlined in your petition letter, and I will allow you to apply for 12.0 units of POLS courses on an International Letter of Permission during the 2024 Winter term at University College Cork in Ireland. Please know that students are allowed to take a maximum of 18.0 units per term including courses taken at other institutions.
You may now apply for an International Letter of Permission through the International Programs Office. We would strongly suggest that you remain closely connected with this office so that you can be made aware of potential disruptions to your international studies if they shall happen.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the International Programs office upon completion of the courses. Please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
Finally, please be advised that you are allowed to complete a maximum of 57.0 transfer units toward your BA Honours degree (see Academic Regulation 16.1.3) including a maximum of 24.0 units toward your Major in Political Studies.
We wish you well in your international studies.
