Dear Blythe:

I was sorry to read of the extenuating circumstances you outlined in your petition letter, and I have reviewed your request to drop ANAT 315 (F 2022) after the drop deadline, as well as receive credit standing in KNPE 251, PSYC 271 (F 2022) and KNPE 255 (W 2023). After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted, and the information supplied by your instructors about the learning outcomes achieved in KNPE 251, PSYC 271 and KNPE 225, I have decided to grant your petition.

Your grades in KNPE 251, PSYC 271 and KNPE 225 will be changed to a CR notation on your transcript, indicating credit standing. Your grade in ANAT 315 will be changed to a DR notation, indicating that course has been dropped late.

Going forward, you will be responsible for managing the impact of your condition on your academics proactively and not after the fact via the petition process. I encourage you to carefully evaluate your progress in each of your courses prior to the week 8 drop deadline and if you have fallen behind or you are not performing in courses to your satisfaction, you should drop courses by the drop deadline. Future petitions based on these same circumstances will not be granted in the future.

Another tool to manage your academics in addition to dropping a course by the drop date deadline is our Academic Consideration protocol. A student can request short term consideration if they need more time to complete an assignment or had to miss a class due to documented extenuating circumstances. Blyth, I encourage you to continue to work with your health care professional and suggest you consider registering with QSAS, if you have not done so already, since a QSAS Advisor may be able help you manage the impact of your health on your academics.
