I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ANAT 100 (W23) after the academic deadline and for Aegrotat Standing in PSYC 100 (FW22/23). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
To grant your request to drop ANAT 100 (W23) after the academic deadline due to the documentation that you supplied dated September 20, 2023, that confirms an exacerbation of your chronic extenuating circumstances during the 2023 Winter term. Due to the timeline of this occurrence, I will also allow you to drop CHEM 112 (FW22/23), BIOL 103 and PHAR (W23) after the academic deadline. To deny your request for Aegrotat Standing in PSYC 100 (FW22/23). As you know, Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3. states that, " Aegrotat standing is reserved for a course in which a student who, because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the class…A medical certificate or other documentation that outlines how the personal extenuating circumstances affected the student’s academic performance must be provided with the petition.
I am sympathetic to your situation and I understand that this is a disappointing decision however, the documentation that you supplied suggests worsening impacts of your extenuating circumstances occurred during the 2023 Winter term and doesn’t speak to the Fall portion of this course. The information that I received from your instructor indicates that you did not complete some components of this class during the 2022 Fall term, which your documentation does not speak to. I acknowledge that you have been experiencing a chronic health-related extenuating circumstances for many years, as per the documentation that you supplied, however, it is the student’s responsibility to manage the impacts on their academics proactively. You can do this by utilizing support services such as Student Wellness Services (SWS), Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS), Academic Consideration, or by dropping impacted classes before the academic drop deadline.
If you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
