I have carefully considered your petition for Aegrotat Standing in ECON 243, ECON 310, EMPR 260 and HIST 215 (W24). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

To grant your request for Aegrotat Standing in ECON 310, EMPR 260 and HIST 215 (W24) due to the timeline, severity and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. I acknowledge that you cannot complete these courses through an Incomplete Grade during the 2024 Summer term due to the ongoing severity of your extenuating circumstances and your instructors have submitted a replacement grade based on the work that you had completed in these courses. The following grades will appear on your transcript along with the notation Aegrotat: estimated grade:

ECON 310 – grade of C-

EMPR 260 – grade of B+

HIST 215 - grade of B-

To deny your request for Aegrotat Standing in ECON 243 (W24). Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3. states that, "Aegrotat standing is reserved for a course in which a student who, because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, is unable to complete all the work of the class. At least 60 per cent of the work to be evaluated in the class (assignments, midterms, laboratories, final examination, as specified in the class syllabus) must be completed.”

I am sympathetic to your situation and I understand that this is a disappointing decision however the instructor of ECON 243 has confirmed that the outstanding final exam is worth 50% of your final grade and so you have not completed enough of the course to be eligible for an Aegrotat Estimated Grade in it. The instructor is however, willing to allow you an Incomplete Grade so that you can write the final exam during the current 2024 Summer term if you are able to do so. Please connect Professor Berkok directly to make these arrangements.

Alternately, as I recognize the ongoing severity of your extenuating circumstances, I am willing to allow you to drop ECON 243 (W24) after the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter.
