Dear Che Breadner:

I have carefully considered your request to Waive the Petition Deadline related to the 2021 Summer term. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request, and I will allow you to drop ENGL 100 (S21) after the academic deadline without having to submit a subsequent petition request.

Your grade in this course will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

I have granted this request due to the academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied.

Going forward, I would suggest that you consider registering with Queen’s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) if you have not done so already, so that you obtain ongoing support from an Accessibility Advisor who can help manage the ongoing impacts of your health on your academics.

Also, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
