Dear Brooklyn:

I have carefully considered your petition to drop SOCY 389 (W23) after the academic deadline and for Aegrotat Standing in ENGL 330 (FW22/23), ENGL 451 (W23), and FREN 331 (W23). After reviewing your file and the information that I received from your instructors, I have decided to grant your request.

The instructor of ENGL 330 (FW22/23) has submitted a replacement grade of C- and the instructor of FREN 331 has submitted a replacement grade of B- based on the work that you had completed in these courses, which will appear on your transcript along with the notation Aegrotat: estimated grade.

As instructors are not obligated to keep information related to students grades past one year of the term ending, we have not been able to obtain your individual grades from ENGL 451 (W23). I am however willing to allow a replacement grade of D- in this course which will appear on your transcript along with the notation Aegrotat: estimated grade. Alternately, if you would prefer to drop this course after the academic deadline instead, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 15 business days from receiving this letter.

I have granted this request due to the timeline and severity of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation that you supplied. Going forward, is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
