Dear Riley Kapuscinski:

I have carefully considered your request to waive the petition deadline related to the 2021 Fall and 2022 Winter terms. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I will also allow you to drop CLST 205, SOCY 200, SOCY 210, SOCY 226, SOCY 302 (F21), SOCY 227, SOCY 235 and SOCY 389 (W22) after the academic deadline without having to submit a subsequent petition request. I have granted this request due to the timeline, severity and academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed by the documentation you supplied.

Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

Going forward, I want you to know that it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes during week 7 of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

Sincerely,

Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
