Dear Fiona Costello:
I have reviewed your petition to take more than 6.0 units at another institution on a Letter of Permission. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
As you know, Regulation 14.1 indicates that a student on a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science may be permitted to take up to 6.0 units of undergraduate classes elsewhere for credit toward a degree offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science via a Letter of Permission.
I have granted this request due to the extenuating circumstances that you presented in your petition letter and the support that you have received from your department. I will allow you to apply for 15.0 units of ENGL courses at Athabasca University with the condition that these courses are completed by April 30, 2026. Please know that students can take a maximum of 18.0 units per term, including courses taken at other institutions.
It is important to note that some institutions are not eligible for a Letter of Permission and not all courses are eligible for transfer credits. It is your responsibility to apply for a Letter of Permission through SOLUS and receive approval before applying to the host institution.
Finally, please be advised that Bachelor of Arts Joint Honours students are allowed a maximum of 57.0 transfer units toward their academic program and a maximum of 18.0 transfer units toward each of their plans.
I wish you well in your studies over the next few years.
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
