Decision Letter
Submission Number: 12811
Decision Date: March 18, 2025
Associate Dean: Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Akshayaa suntharathas
Student Email: 22st47@queensu.ca
Course: CHEM 112
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2024
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Akshayaa:
I have carefully considered your request to waive the petition deadline related to the 2023 Fall term and to drop CHEM 112 (FW23/24) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I have granted this request due to the academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as reported within your petition letter and that I recognize that this was your first year at university. I will also allow you to drop MATH 130 and PHYS 115 (F23) after the academic deadline, without having to submit a subsequent petition. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.
Going forward, it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes prior to the drop deadline of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by the deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
Sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
