Thank you for your petition regarding Aegrotat Standing in EMPR 270 and GLPH 271 (W25). I have carefully reviewed your request and the supporting documentation that you supplied, and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3, Aegrotat Standing is intended for students who, due to illness or other significant extenuating circumstances, are unable to complete all the work for a course. A student with extenuating circumstances who may be able to complete the remaining work in a class should consider a petition to extend the deadline to submit incomplete work or complete a deferred exam instead.
I acknowledge that you are not able to write the final exams in these courses during the Winter exam period due to a military service obligation, as confirmed within the documentation you supplied. I have however, denied your request for Aegrotat Standing as you were aware of this military obligation prior to the start of the 2025 Winter term and chose to enroll in a full course load despite the timeline of this circumstances. As this situation is not unexpected at this time, I cannot grant your request.
That said, the instructors of EMPR 270 and GLPH 271 (W25) have confirmed that they will support you with an Incomplete Grade in their courses by allowing you an additional term to complete the outstanding work alongside your currently enrolled summer term courses. It is your responsibility to connect with instructors Lilius and Carpenter to make the arrangements to complete the final exams prior to August 31, 2025.
Additionally, if you wish to appeal this decision, you are welcome to submit an appeal to the Board of Studies.
