Dear Isidora Vukadinovic,

Thank you for your petition regarding Aegrotat Standing in ARTH 121 (F24). I have carefully reviewed your request and the supporting documentation that you supplied, and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.

According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 3.3.1.3, Aegrotat Standing is intended for students who, due to illness or other significant extenuating circumstances, are unable to complete all the work for a course. As part of the petition decision process, the instructor must assert that the student has met all of the course learning outcomes.

I acknowledge that an extenuating circumstance prevented you from participating in ARTH 121 for a few specific timelines during the Fall term. I see that you received Academic Consideration from October 5 until October 25. Also, the documentation that you supplied, specifically the email from your QSAS Advisor, suggests an alternative to participation in this course during the timeline of October 29 until November 9, 2024. That said, I have denied your request for Aegrotat Standing as the information that I received from the instructor confirms that you did not complete all of the other graded components in this course outside of the aforementioned periods. Specifically, that you did not complete Mini Essay #3 and that you did not attend any of the in-person tutorials during the entire Fall term. Please know that Aegrotat Standing does not apply to situations where a student is able to complete the remaining work in a class.

Going forward, please know that it is the student’s responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on their classes prior to the drop deadline of the term. If they have fallen behind in a course or find the material too difficult, they should drop the course by the deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
