Dear Lexi,

Thank you for your petition request to drop MATH 112 (W24) after the academic deadline and for Credit Standing in PHAR 100, BIOL 102, BIOL 103 (W24), and CHEM 112 (FW23/24). I have carefully reviewed your petition and while I’m unable to grant all of these requests, I want to emphasize that this decision is based on the guidelines outlined in the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Petition and Appeal Regulations.

I have decided to grant your request to drop MATH 112 (W24) after the academic deadline, and to confer Credit Standing in BIOL 103, PHAR 100 (W24) and CHEM 112 (FW24/25) due to the timeline of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation you supplied. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR or CR notation on your transcript accordingly.

Regarding your request for Credit Standing in BIOL 102 (W24), the Academic Petitions and Appeals Regulation 1.7.1.4 at https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/appeal-regulations/ state that credit standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected. I acknowledge the health-related struggles that you have experienced, and I was happy to read that you are engaged with professional supports at this time. I have however, denied your request for Credit Standing in this course as the instructor has reported that you did not complete all of the components in it; specifically, instructor Moyes has confirmed that you did not complete the individual or group activity for the 3rd Lab, the 2nd Study Session or the Student Lecture. According to the Regulation cited above, you are therefore ineligible for CR standing in this course. If you are concerned with the impact that this course has on your GPA, I suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript, but only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
