I have carefully considered your petition request to add HLTH 101 and PHIL 151 (S25) past the academic deadline; while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The deadlines for adding courses have been established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the relevant permission, determine their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I acknowledge the circumstances outlined in your petition letter regarding the unexpected denial of your application to graduate. However, it is my understanding based on documents included with your petition that this situation has since been resolved, and that you were approved to graduate by the Faculty of Arts and Science. Your petition letter states that you have been offered a research opportunity that requires you to have completed your degree before August, so it remains unclear to me why you have chosen not to graduate in June when the opportunity was presented. I have therefore denied this request as these courses are not required for your degree completion.
Going forward, I encourage you to connect with the Degree Coordinator at asc.degree@queensu.ca so that you can discuss the next opportunity for you to graduate.
