Dear Poorvi:

I have carefully considered your request to waive the petition deadline related to the 2023 Fall and 2024 Winter terms. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

You can now access on the on-line petition portal at queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/academic-petitions-and-appeals to submit your new petition under the appropriate category such as, to drop a course after the academic deadline.

Please know that as instructors are only obligated to keep information related to a student’s grades for 1 year after the term ending, it may not be possible to determine eligibility for Credit Standing in courses from 2023/2024 academic year.

Within your new petition request, you should include a letter that outlines the timeline of the extenuating circumstances during the term and how each course was directly impacted during this timeline. Your documentation should confirm the timeline of the extenuating circumstances, the severity of the extenuating circumstances and how the extenuating circumstances impacted your academic ability. Documentation can include but is not limited to a letter from a professional such as Student Wellness Services (SWS), an off-campus physician’s letter (if your healthcare provider is not within the Queen’s community), a death certificate, or legal documents if relevant. If your extenuating circumstances are personal in nature or cannot be documented professionally, we may accept a letter from a family member or friend as long as they supply their contact information so that it can be verified.

If you have any questions about your subsequent petition request, please meet with an Academic Advisor for support.

Sincerely,

Dorit Naaman, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
