Thank you for your petition requesting to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a Letter of Permission, specifically your request to take 15.0 units of courses at an institution in Madrid during the 2025 Fall term. I have carefully reviewed your request, and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that I’ve taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, Academic Regulation 14.1 states that a student on a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science may be permitted to take up to 6.0 units of undergraduate classes elsewhere for credit toward a degree offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science via a Letter of Permission. The student must obtain a Letter of Permission prior to enrolling in classes at another post-second institution. Students with extenuating circumstances or an opportunity to pursue an exceptional learning experience not available through Queen's may submit a petition to the Associate Dean (Academic) to request an exception to the 6.0 unit maximum.
I would like to acknowledge your previous petition decision, where you were granted permission to take courses at an institution in Madrid during the 2025 Winter term. I understand that you were able to take some classes during that term, although not all of them were eligible for transfer back to Queen’s.
I appreciate your interest in continuing to live and study in Madrid, and I recognize the value that this experience holds for you. However, as your petition does not demonstrate an exceptional academic opportunity that meets the requirements for waiving the regulation for the 2025 Fall term, I am unable to grant your request.
