Dear Nona Ghassemian:

I have carefully considered your request to waive the petition deadline related to the 2024 Winter term. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

According to Academic Appeals and Petitions regulation 1.5.2. exceptions to the petition deadlines can only be granted in cases where extenuating circumstances beyond a student’s control render the student unable to submit a petition or appeal within the specified timeline.

I have granted this request due to the reasons outlined in your petition letter. As the documentation that you supplied confirms academic impacts from extenuating circumstances during the 2024 Winter term, I will also allow you to drop CHEM 223 (W24) without submitting an additional petition. Your grade in this course will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.

Going forward, you should know that it is your responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on your coursework prior to the drop deadline of the term. If you fall behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.

Sincerely,

Dorit Naaman, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Academic)
