I have reviewed your petition to waive the deadline related to the 2022 Summer, 2022 Fall and 2023 Winter terms. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
As the documentation that you supplied confirms academic impacts since January 2023, I will also allow you to drop ARTH 210, ASTR 101, CLST 203, GPHY 314 and LAW 201 (W23) after the academic deadline, without a subsequent petition request. Your grades in these courses will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript.
If you can supply additional documentation that confirms academic impacts during the 2022 Summer and 2022 Fall terms, you may access on the on-line petition portal at queensu.ca/artsci/undergraduate/student-services/academic-petitions-and-appeals to submit a new petition under the appropriate category for these terms such as, to drop a course after the academic deadline.
Going forward, I want to let you know that the petition process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Academic impacts from ongoing circumstances should be managed proactively by utilizing options such as academic consideration or accommodation through QSAS. Upon your return to studies, you should know that it is your responsibility to pause and evaluate the impact of extenuating circumstances on your coursework prior to the drop deadline of the term. If you fall behind in a course or find the material too difficult, you should drop the course by deadline. The drop deadlines, outlined in the “Important Dates” section on the Faculty of Arts and Science web page, have been established to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students.
