I have reviewed your petition to take more than 6.0 units at another institution on a Letter of Permission. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
Academic Regulation 14.1 indicates that a student on a degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science may be permitted to take up to 6.0 units of undergraduate classes elsewhere for credit toward a degree offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science via a Letter of Permission. Students with extenuating circumstances or an opportunity to pursue an exceptional learning experience not available through Queen's may submit a petition to the Associate Dean (Academic) to request an exception to the 6.0 unit maximum.
I have granted this request due to academic impacts of extenuating circumstances as confirmed within the documentation you supplied. I recognize that you have already transferred 6.0 units of courses from another institution, and I will allow you to transfer an additional 9.0 units of courses for the 2026 Winter term through a Letter of Permission.
Although this permission has been granted, I am concerned about the heavy course load of 21.0 units in the Winter term. I recommend that you consider spreading these courses out and taking your final 6.0 units on a Letter of Permission during the 2026 Summer term instead. While this would mean graduating later than Spring of 2026, you would still be able to complete the courses without having to return to campus. If you would like to proceed with this academic plan, please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca so that they can make the arrangements with the Letter of Permission office.
Also, it is important to note that some institutions are not eligible for a Letter of Permission, and not all courses are eligible for transfer credits. It is your responsibility to apply for a Letter of Permission through SOLUS and receive approval before applying to the host institution.
Finally, please be advised that students admitted to the Faculty of Arts and Science prior to Fall 2024 are allowed a maximum of 57.0 transfer units toward their academic program and a maximum of 24.0 transfer units (excluding supporting courses) toward their Major plan.
