Thank you for your petition requesting an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in PSYC 338 (F25). I have carefully reviewed your request and while I’m unable to grant your petition, I want to assure you that your circumstances were considered thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision-making process.
According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.1 petitions are only granted where there are significantly extenuating circumstances, which would merit the waiving of a particular Faculty regulation or decision. In addition, the petitions process does not compensate for extenuating circumstances that are actively being accommodated, for example where a student’s permanent disabilities are being accommodated through Queen’s Student Accessibility Services.
I was sorry to read about the health-related extenuating circumstances that you experienced during the Fall term. Based on the documentation that you supplied dated February 4, 2026, it appears that this is a chronic condition that began to affect your Fall term academics on October 1, 2025. I also understand that your instructor accommodated you during the 2025 Fall term by allowing you multiple extensions.
While I empathize with your situation, the petition process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition that was appropriately accommodated during the term through services such as academic consideration or accommodations through QSAS. For this reason, I am unable to grant this request.
That said, as the documentation you supplied confirms the academic impacts of extenuating circumstances during the 2025 Fall term, I will allow you to drop PSYC 338 (F25) after the academic deadline. If you accept this offer, your final grade will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. Please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter if you would like to proceed with this academic option.
