I have carefully considered your petition for Credit Standing in LAW 205 (W25) While I’m unable to grant this request, I want to assure you that your circumstances were considered thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision-making process.
According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.7.1.4 Credit Standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected. Normally CR standing is only awarded for a grade of C or lower.
I acknowledge the health-related challenges you described in your petition letter and commend you for taking steps to manage your circumstances, including reducing your course load during the 2025 Winter term. I also appreciate the documentation that you supplied I am glad to hear that you are receiving appropriate support.
While I do empathize with your situation, your individual grades in this course indicate that you did not complete the Division of Powers component, or the weeks 7 and 8 discussion forums which together account for 35% of the final grade. As you did not complete all graded components in LAW 205 (W25), you are not eligible for Credit Standing in this course under the regulation.
If you are concerned with the impact that your final grade in this course has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
Additionally, if you wish to appeal this decision, you are welcome to submit an appeal to the Board of Studies.
