I have carefully considered your petition for Credit Standing in PSYC 271 (F25). While I’m unable to grant this request, I want to assure you that your circumstances were considered thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision-making process.
According to the Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.7.1.4 Credit Standing is reserved for a course in which a student who has completed all of the work of the class, including the final examination, and achieved a passing grade in the class, but due to illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected. A medical certificate or other documentation outlining how the personal extenuating circumstances affected the student’s academic performance must be provided with the petition.
I acknowledge the health-related challenges you described in your petition letter that occurred during the final examination for PSYC 271 (F25), and I appreciate the documentation you supplied to support this circumstance.
While I do empathize with your situation, your individual grades in this course indicate that you did not meet the learning outcomes, as you were not successful on Midterm Exam #2 in November or on the final exam. Although you provided documentation to support the circumstances affecting your performance on the final exam, your petition did not include documentation demonstrating that an unexpected extenuating circumstance affected your performance on Midterm Exam #2. As a result, I am unable to grant this request.
If you are concerned with the impact that your final grade in PSYC 271 (F25) has on your GPA, I would suggest that you consider repeating it in a future term. When repeating the exact same course code, both attempts will appear on your transcript however, only the higher grade will be included within the calculation of your cumulative GPA.
Additionally, if you wish to appeal this decision, you are welcome to submit an appeal to the Board of Studies.
