Thank you for your petition requesting an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in RELS 257 and LAW 203 (F25). I have carefully reviewed your request, along with the information provided by the course instructors. While I am unable to grant both of these requests, I want to assure you that your circumstances were considered thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision-making process.
I acknowledge the health-related challenges you described in your petition letter and am sincerely sorry that these circumstances had such a significant impact on your Fall term. I appreciate the documentation you provided and am glad to hear that you are receiving appropriate support at this time.
I am able to grant your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in RELS 257 (F25) as the instructor can facilitate accepting and grading the outstanding Final Essay during the current 2026 Summer term. It is your responsibility to contact Instructor Hodges as soon as possible to make these arrangements.
With respect to your request for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade in LAW 203 (F25), Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.7.1.5 states that a student affected by extenuating circumstances may request academic consideration or ask the course instructor for Incomplete standing (IN) for up to one full term following the completion of a course. If granted, any further request to submit outstanding work after that term must be made through a petition to the Associate Dean (Academic).
Normally, such requests are considered when a student has participated actively in the course and only one or two components remain outstanding due to extenuating circumstances beyond the student’s control. Students who are unable to complete the majority of coursework due to extenuating circumstances are typically advised to consider a petition to drop the course after the deadline rather than an extension to submit incomplete work.
The instructor of LAW 203 reported that Quiz 2, the Discussion Board, the Collective Bargaining Reflection, the Globalisation Essay, and the Final Exam, which together account for 48.5% of the final grade, were not completed. The instructor also confirmed that required groupwork components of the course were outstanding at the individual level. As a result, the majority of graded coursework for LAW 203 remains incomplete,
and you are not eligible for an Extension of an Incomplete Grade under the applicable regulations.
That said, as the documentation you provided confirms the academic impact of extenuating circumstances during the 2025 Fall term, I will allow you to drop LAW 203 (F25) after the academic deadline. If you choose to accept this option, your final grade will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. Please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter if you wish to proceed.
