Petition Letter
Dear Academic Appeals Committee,
I am requesting a credit standing (CR) grade for my ENGL 273: Literature and the Fantastic course, instructed by Dr. Heather Evans, on the basis of an ongoing medical issue for which I have attached documentation from my family doctor. I really loved this course, and was advised by Dr. Evans that I have passed the course, but because of my health condition for which I am I seeking ongoing treatment, I unfortunately was not well enough to perform at the best of my ability for the final examination of this course, worth 40% of my final grade. I did not sit the final exam because of these ongoing issues (I can forward to you the conversation between myself, Dr. Evans, and the Exams Office regarding the possible deferral of this final exam, and the ultimate decision to make the request for CR standing instead). Keeping my GPA at the same level or increasing it is very important to me, so I would not knowingly take or continue to pursue a course I feel would hinder my progress. I apologize for my overreaching estimation in taking this course as my passion and curiosity got the better of me. I have unfortunately found out it is not a reoccurring course, which makes it all the more upsetting and I hope in the future I will be able to expand on this avenue for knowledge and growth. Meanwhile, please excuse my ambition and hopefully let me appeal for a credit standing so that is does not affect my current GPA standing. Please let me know if you require any additional documentation.
Thank you sincerely and all the best,
Melanie Travassos
