Petition Letter
Hello there,
My name is Jack Anson, and I am writing to this today to ask to be added to ENSC 390 after the add/drop date. I am aware that this appeal does not have much backing to it with regard to documentation but that is the problem that I am attempting to overcome. I have already spoken to one of the professors, Dr. Orihel, about the reasons that I was not able to join the course and she said she would support this appeal as I make it.
Over the past couple of years, I have been struggling with both mental and physical health issues. In the winter semester of the previous school year, I was taking ENSC 390 however, over reading week I broke my ankle and required surgery that would have me immobile for a minimum of two months. This meant that I was unable to finish that semester, but I was ready to come back the following year and attempt those courses again. Unfortunately, over the course of my previous semester, I found myself declining again mentally and had some unfortunate events really made it difficult to continue with a 5-course timeline. One course that I was willing to take again as I try to regain my footing with my academic life was ENSC 390 because I quite enjoyed it last year and was very disappointed that I was unable to continue with it. Despite not being in the course, I have attended every class so that I won't fall behind if am put in the course.
This semester as I attempted to join the course, I was put on the waitlist. Everything seemed normal on my end and when I was taken off the waitlist and accepted into the course, I made sure I opted into the course in order to reserve my seat. When I did this, everything looked normal on my end. When I showed up for my course however I was unable to access the course ONQ and it said that I wasn't in the course on SOLUS. I then phoned academic advising and asked them what had happened, and they informed me that since I had taken in the past, and didn't finish it, I would need an exception but I only found that out once it was past the deadline due to the fact that it appeared to me that I was already enrolled in the course.
In summary, I am writing to ask if, with the professor's permission to be added to the course late. I have been taking steps to ensure that I am able to complete this semester barring extenuating circumstances. I would be willing to have a meeting to explain this further whether it be with the Professors, the department head, or with someone from the appeals office.
Thank you for your time,
Jack
