Petition Letter
Greetings,
Protests in Iran began on September 16th when a young girl my age named Mahsa Amini was hit so hard in the head by the police, she died a day later.
Mahsa Amini was subjected to police brutality by the Islamic Morality Policy because her hijab was ?improper??.
I am against the mandatory hijab as are most people in Iran, and it affected me personally that a 22-year-old woman was killed for a law that controls my life.
Since Mahsa??s death, protests across the country erupted with people shouting ??Zan Zendegi Azadi?/ ??Woman, Life, Freedom?. This was the slogan however people were out protesting in hopes for regime change because of total mismanagement, inflation, depression, gender apartheid and more.
These were an incredible few months for both myself and Iranians all across the world, filled with mixed emotions as I truly believed that we would witness change and freedom. I was out nearly every week protesting, screaming, and supporting my people. It was very important to me because my life is intertwined with Iran??s future. All we want is the Islamic Republic to collapse.
My goal was and is to finish my degree online. However, with the government crackdown due to protests, internets were slowed down and turned off. This had a huge impact in my ability to submit and keep up with classwork. Another reason I had an incredibly difficult time keeping up with deadlines and focusing in general was the effects these protests turning into a revolution had on me mentally and emotionally.
We have suffered in what we call ??occupied Iran? for decades. The country is in shambles. This gave us all extreme hope that life in Iran would get better. As a result, 90% of my brain was occupied by ways we can overthrow the government. I managed to continue and finish two of my Fall 2022 classes with great help and cooperation by my professors, however four was simply too much for me to manage and I could not submit assignments before the due date.
I would like for these classes to be removed from my transcript if possible or for the F to not show at least. I hope this is a possibility with the circumstances I had.
If you have any questions, please let me know I will be happy to answer.
All the best,
Samira Firouz
