Petition Letter
Dear whom it may concern,
I am writing this petition letter to request that I be granted permission to drop a course, CLST 103, late after the academic deadline. I understand that dropping a course beyond the cutoff date is typically not permitted. The drop deadline for this course was March 3. I do, however, feel that my situation's extenuating circumstances should be considered.
My recent personal and medical crises has made it difficult for me to finish this semester's homework, which is why I'm submitting this petition. In particular, a close family member died shortly after the start of the semester, which prompted me to spend a few weeks travelling back and forth to Toronto. Due to this circumstance, I am finding it harder to cope with my continuous depression and lack of motivation to go to class and complete my assignments. Considering I don't have any friends or sources of support in Kingston, I had to stay in Toronto to focus on my mental health?and therefore?miss classes.
In addition to the grief and depression, I also suffer from social anxiety, which has made it difficult for me to attend classes when I did return to Kingston. As a result, I have fallen behind on coursework and am not performing as well as I use to. Due to my low GPA, lack of interest in my degree, and discomfort of being away from home, I have been under a lot of stress. I am aware that most students certainly experience these same emotions, but I am really struggling. I want to reach out for assistance, but I'm not sure how. These factors have made me feel overwhelmed, which has further decreased my motivation and left me powerless to do anything. Furthermore, My lack of interest in CLST 103 makes it even more difficult for me to find the motivation to go to class and finish my homework.
I understand that dropping a course late may have consequences on my academic progress, including the possibility of delaying my graduation. However, I believe that the extenuating circumstances surrounding my situation should be taken into account. In conclusion, I kindly request that you consider my petition to drop CLST 103 late, after the academic deadline. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you,
Aprelle Magallanes
