Petition Letter
Dear, Dr. Jenn Stephenson
The reason for this academic petition is that I wish to have the grade for PHYS 117 replaced with the grade from PHYS 118 on my transcript. Last year I took PHYS 117 but unfortunately I was unable to achieve a passing grade at the end of the year due to my ongoing struggle with extreme test and exam anxiety. However, I did pass the lab portion of PHYS 117. Over the summer of 2022 I took the online version of PHYS 117 that was offered, which was PHYS 118. This course was identical to PHYS 117 minus the lab component of course. I was successful in receiving a much higher grade at the end of that course. Currently, PHYS 117 is still on my transcript as a failing grade. I also retook MATH 121 over the summer for the same reason, and that grade was automatically changed. I did not reach out sooner due to the fact that I had assumed the grade would have been automatically changed, since the course was identical except for the lab component. Currently, I am seeking professional help from a psychologist in hopes that I can learn ways to manage my anxiety and prevent it from impacting my grades in this way again. I believe that my GPA should not be affected and I should not be penalized over this technicality.
I appreciate your consideration on this matter.
Sincerely,
Hannah Hayes(student number 20267615)
