Petition Letter
Dear Whomever is reading this,
I am a fourth-year student in life sciences who will be graduating this year. I am hoping to attend chiropractic college after I complete my degree at Queen's University. As chiropractic colleges look at CGPA, I have done everything I could to raise mine since my second year. Two years ago was a very tough year for myself, I know it was tough for many others as well, my grades plummeted as a result of this. To raise my GPA, I thought it would be ideal to enroll in 6 courses, the more classes I took the more I could raise it I thought. I was feeling very motivated at the beginning of the year and was on top of everything, unfortunately I began battling extenuating mental and physical health problems that resulted in falling behind in a few of my classes. Due to personal issues, stress about my future and my life, constantly battling what felt like the flu, I started feeling depressed, anxious, and lethargic. For the most part, I was able to not let my grades fall too much, besides one class, PSYC 236. In addition to feeling mentally and physically unwell, I also realized I was not financially stable. I picked up a part time job during first semester to try and help with my financial situation, but given the cost of living, monthly rent, and the 6 courses I enrolled in, it has been very difficult to pay for everything and ultimately led to me feeling very unwell and my school grades being negatively affected. Not only was it hard to pay for everything, I also found it very difficult to balance work and school which led to me making less money than I needed, but I was worried my grades would be sacrificed if I picked up more shifts. I regret taking 6 courses, I have never taken 6 courses at once before until this semester and I think I have struggled mentally and physically because of it. I am extremely worried that if I cannot drop PSYC 236, my CGPA will drop again and I will not be accepted to chiropractic college, I have worked so hard to raise my GPA since second year. I have reached out and spoke to virtual doctors as well as my friends and family about my problems which has helped significantly. I also began working out at the ARC and being more active which has helped to make me feel less tired and lethargic. I understand that the last day to drop a course was March 3rd, I am so disappointed in myself for missing this date. If it helps my case, I do have an academic consideration that went from 2023-02-27 to 2023-03-07. Inevitably, I am hoping to be able to drop PSYC 236 even though it is after the deadline. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
Kindest Regards,
Aidan Moore
