Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Madeleine Moore and I am petitioning to late drop two courses (WRIT 120 and FILM 240) from the Winter 2022 semester.
During my time at Queen's, I was registered with QSAS with multiple permanent disabilities - some pre-existing prior to my studies while others were later onset. When applying to graduate in Fall 2021, I was disheartened to discover that I still had 9.0 units to complete before graduating with my B.Sc. in ENSC.
In January 2022, I was working a full-time job and both registered and paid to take two courses for the Winter 2022 semester. It was also at this time that I was officially diagnosed with anorexia. Struggling with an eating disorder had affected my ability to successfully complete my final 9.0 units in school, my physical and mental well-being, my social life, my job performance, and my overall quality of life. By the time I realized that I couldn't balance taking the courses in addition to working a full-time job and managing an eating disorder, it was too late to drop out without receiving academic and financial penalties. I had not accessed onQ, submitted any assignments, or actively engaged with the course content and I was understandably left with two failed courses.
I have since been working with my family doctor and my therapist, and additionally have been on a waiting list for an eating disorder program with my local hospital and receiving frequent consultations with a specialized nurse. I have made the decision to step down from my full-time job in order to complete my last courses in Summer 2023 in order to prioritize my physical health as well as my mental health. While my road to recovery has been daunting and rather gruelling, I am determined to succeed at Queen's despite my disabilities and my struggle with anorexia.
Thank you for your consideration,
Madeleine Moore
