Petition Letter
Dear Members of the Petition Committee:
I am writing this letter in order to petition for a request to drop PHAR 100 past the drop deadline. The reason for my petition are based on medical/extenuating circumstances. My petition makes references to the following supporting documents:
The circumstances surrounding my petition that my mom was hospitalized back in January. She was having trouble breathing for a few weeks but I kept thinking it was because she was sick (had a cold). I am the sole caretaker of my mom. Her and I live in the same household. She doesn??t speak English or drive. When she was hospitalized, it was for a few days and we found out that she had a pulmonary embolism. She is doing better now and is taking her blood thinner. However, during that time, it was a lot of back and forth to different doctors for further testing. Making sure her meds were not contraindicating her blood thinners (she was taking asprin). We are still waiting on a few more appointments to make sure that her medication is working properly. Nonetheless, this affected my efforts to try and study and make time for my Pharmacology class. When it first happened it was around the first assignment and first midterm. So it kind of set me back right from the beginning. It was very discouraging.. In between all of that, I also have to work. I want nothing more than to be in school and study. I am 31 years old. I enjoy learning so much but I??ve had to put this ahead of school and couldn??t catch up after that. I was also struggling financially.
You??ll notice I??ve attached an image of an email I was sent from my landlord. I was stressed over the fact that I would get evicted. I was behind because everything got so expensive and what I??m making as a server isn??t enough to pay everything in time. I had to pick up another job to help catch up. My mom helps with rent but she receives Old Age and can only give me a certain amount. The rest falls on me, bills, groceries, my car payment, insurance, phone bill, internet, etc? My point is that I had no choice but to leave the class on the back burner.. I couldn??t sleep and had panic attacks during the past few months. It has gotten better since I??ve caught up a little but not being able to complete the class has been really disheartening for me. I just really don??t want to ruin my chances at taking more classes at Queens University. I just want to be able to retake the class and do better without affecting my chances as an Interest student. I realize that I??m sending this petition much later than I should??ve or had anticipated, but I had to make the time in between work, and had to find the letter from the hospital. I was trying to put all the necessary information together to write the letter.
As a result of this situation, I realize that I seem irresponsible when it comes to school and that I don??t care but I promise you, all I want is to do succeed in school, and make that a priority for myself. I was hoping I can retake the class in the summer. As an interest student I need a certain GPA. I will not be working the second job anymore by the end of the month. I will have my days off to myself again and I??m usually done work by 4:30 pm. I would greatly appreciate your approval of my petition.
