Petition Letter
I am writing this letter because I am scheduled to take the deferred POLS 285 exam on May 11th.
When I was originally taking the exam on April 15th, I ended up having a severe panic attack with hyperventilation and was unable to continue taking the exam. This was due to the new medication I had started taking for my mental disabilities: ADHD, Major Depressive Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder. I had spoken to multiple proctors, and the one who was in charge said I could go home and take the exam at a later date. I told him I would not be able to attend the scheduled differed exam as I will not be in Kingston and cannot inform my parents of the situation as they would prevent me from seeking treatment for my disability. This proctor said it would be alright if I cannot take the scheduled differed exam and that he had filed a medical report and the situation would be figured out.?
Since then, I have seen my doctor and switched off the medication that had caused me to have this reaction. I am still continuing the process to address my anxiety with the trial of new medication, but since switching off the medication I was taking at the time of the event I have not been having severe panic attacks anymore.
I also emailed the exam's office, which told me to file for academic consideration. I did so, however, I do not have access to documentation of my disability. The school has access through my doctor Dr. Weiss and my therapist Meghan Stouffer Leuprecht, who I consent fully to share this information with you.?
This is all to say that I am unable to take the differed exam and am wondering what my options are for the next steps.
