Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to petition my required withdrawal from my program for one year. I know I must hold myself accountable for my own actions, but I'd like to explain why my grades slipped and why I am asking for this appeal, for this second chance to show you guys I am able now to put all of my effort and power into my schoolwork and raise my grades and do as well as I know I can.
The year 2022 and the beginning of 2023 was a rough time for myself and my family where we had three deaths within the family, two close family friends die as well multiple severe health scares. These took a significant toll on my mental and physical health, as my family lives in another province so I had to deal with all of the grief without my family by my side and I was unable to attend funerals and viewings. While dealing with all of this grief I still went to every class I physically could attend while also doing my absolute best to do all my assignments and quizzes, spending countless hours in the library working on my notes, associated readings, quizzes, and assignments. I was exhausted both mentally and physically.
The immense grief I was feeling while also trying to stay on top of everything hand in hand provided more stress leaving me in a terrible head space but I refused to let myself crumble I wanted to show what I was truly capable of accomplishing, but the state I was in I was not showing my actual capabilities and what I can achieve academically in the slightest I was just burning myself out by trying to do and be everything I wanted and it causes a massive decline in my grades, especially towards exam seasons, I was so drained and exhausted I was not retaining the knowledge I needed long term only bits and pieces so I did very poorly on my exams and not as well as I could have on assignments, etc.
I am ready to do everything that needs to be done to be granted this second chance, I know I'm capable of it all and with the guidance of the academic advisors to ensure my plan goes exactly how it needs to go I will prove I am worthy of this second chance and to not have to take this year off. I'd like to thank you for this opportunity to explain.
