Petition Letter
I am a student with QSAS accommodations as granted by my QSAS advisor, from provided documentation and consultation on my physical and mental illnesses, who understands and abides by the process and regulations required of me. I receive an extra week on all assignments as per my request and informal of the professor, and more time granted if consulted with my QSAS advisor and my professor(s). During the last 3 weeks of the Winter 2023 semester, my heart condition and my mental health were affected by a health episode and I had promptly reached out to, via email, my professor for the course, Gordon Dueck. After no response for over a week, I reached out again. And then a third time, and I have yet after final grade submission heard back from him upon my request to exercise my accommodations and upon my current extenuating circumstance. I therefore was given no guidance on how and on what timeline to complete my final assignment, resulting in a failure in the course. His lack of response is unacceptable and I am petitioning to appeal my final grade and have my final assignment graded. Throughout this period of time, Professor Dueck had sent varying mass emails to the class, while ignoring mine, and had his office hours truncated, or cancelled, making it difficult to attend to discuss my circumstance in person, instead of remotely via email, on top of my other courses and thesis. It was additionally close to moving time as my lease was expiring and due to my health, and intended completion of my degree, I was leaving Kingston. This has affected the conferring of my degree and my plans for convocation, as well as taken a toll further on my mental health and current circumstance.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope this petition finds you well.
Sincerely,
Bella DiBernardo (20107071).
