Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
When I receive the letter from the school on May 23rd, after a few days of consideration I would like to appeal the decision of withdrawing a year from school.
When I joined Queen??s University, I??m not doing very well in the first year, because of covid and online courses, which is make me really confused about my own future, these problems make me get major depression and anxiety. To deal with my own situation, I decide to leave the school for a year. At this time, I healed my mental health, and try different kinds of life. In the end, I believe back to study is the best thing I could do. So I back to school in the 2022 fall term, but at the end of the fall term, my grandfather was hospitalized with COVID-19 in December and my grandmother was hospitalized with early-stage cancer in March. They are really old and weak, and these situations increase a lot of stress and aggravate my depression, I need to use the medicine which I take from the doctor at last year to let my emotion keep stable. I have to stay up at night and use more time to talk with them (we are in different time zone). I have to say I was like walking dead at that time Because of that, I cannot focus on the classes, especially I read the books about death from Philosophy. During this year, I kept thinking about what kind of plan I would use to finish my studies. After conversations with my friends and teachers, I decided that I would join the history major to achieve academic success, after this I gradually shifted my focus to Philosophy and History, and unconsciously reduce the time of other courses. In the end, I got a B in history and a C in philosophy. I know these grades are normal for other people, but it??s a great improvement for myself when compared with my first-year grades. So I wish the school can cancel my punishment of withdrawing one year and let me continue to study at Queen??s University. I will submit the documents I have later.
