Academic Plan
My Academic Plan:
I understand that my academic performance has fallen below the required standards due to extenuating circumstances, namely the significant personal challenges I have faced throughout the year, including the loss of a close family friend and my Uncle being diagnosed with a brain tumour. I would like to provide an explanation of these circumstances and outline a comprehensive academic plan to demonstrate my commitment to achieving academic success upon my reinstatement.
Academic Challenges:
Seeking Support: I understand the importance of seeking support during difficult times. I have actively engaged with a therapist to address the emotional impact of the troubles I have experienced. I will continue to seek counselling services to help me process my emotions effectively and develop healthy coping mechanisms, ensuring that my academic performance is not hindered in the future.
Time Management and Prioritization: Recognizing the increased responsibilities placed on me, I have learned valuable lessons in time management and prioritization. I have implemented effective strategies, such as creating a detailed schedule, setting realistic goals, and breaking down tasks into manageable steps, which will help me balance my personal and academic commitments more effectively. I have looked into testing for ADD and ADHD as I believe there is a possibility I could be diagnosed with one of these mental health disorders and it would have had an affect on my academics.
Academic Success Plan:
Improved Study Habits: I am committed to enhancing my study habits and developing effective learning techniques. I will create a structured study plan, allocating specific time for each subject and utilizing various resources such as textbooks, online materials, and academic support services.
Improved Living Situation: After falling out with my housemates, I have taken the steps to acquire a solo apartment for myself next year. I believe that this upgrade in living conditions will lead me to a better lifestyle, it will allow me to be more independent, organized and in control of my living space. I will not have the outside distractions of roommates, I will have my own space and be in full control of my lifestyle. This means I won’t ever feel pressured to stay in my room, I won’t have to ask people to clean up their mess, and I will have the freedom of being by myself. I strongly believe this will have a very positive effect on me next year.
Utilizing Academic Resources: I will make use of the various academic resources available at Queens. This includes attending professor office hours, seeking assistance from tutors or academic mentors, and actively participating in study groups to enhance my understanding of course material.
Regular Communication: I understand the importance of open and proactive communication with my professors. I will regularly attend classes, actively participate in discussions, and seek clarification whenever necessary. I will promptly address any concerns or difficulties I may encounter to ensure a proactive approach to my education.
Setting Realistic Goals: I will set realistic and achievable academic goals for each semester. By breaking down long-term objectives into smaller milestones, I will maintain motivation and monitor my progress more effectively.
Seeking Emotional Support: Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being, I will continue seeking support from counselling services and actively engage in self-care practices. By prioritizing my mental health, I will be better equipped to handle any challenges that may arise.
If my petition was to be accepted, I will take a lighter course load in the first term to ease myself back into things to where I can feel comfortable and in control. I will continue to actively seek help from my therapist as well as counsellors that the school can offer to me (emotionally or academically).
In conclusion, I sincerely request that you strongly reconsider my withdrawal from Queens and grant me the opportunity to continue my education. I am fully committed to implementing the academic success plan outlined above, overcoming the challenges I have faced, and achieving the academic excellence that I am capable of. I can proudly say I have already put aspects of my plan into action and I am already seeing positive changes in my life.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss my petition further and provide any additional documentation or information if required.
Yours sincerely,
Will
