Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to submit an academic petition regarding my last few terms and how my mental health has taken a toll on my academic standings.
I have carefully considered my academic progress and the challenges I have encountered throughout the semester, and after a discussion with my academic advisor Meghan Norris. I have come to the realization that it is in my best interest to appeal to drop the courses that I failed, and appeal to receive credit standing for the courses I passed this academic year.
The primary reason for my request is that I have been recently diagnosed by a medical professional with generalized anxiety and major depressive disorder. These mental health conditions have had a profound impact on my academic performance as well as on my daily life, including attending classes regularly and maintaining consistent academic performance. Despite my endless efforts, the symptoms associated with depression and anxiety, such as overwhelming fatigue, lack of concentration, and persistent feelings of sadness, have severely hindered my ability to fully engage with course material and meet the academic expectations for my courses.
I have sought out professional help and have consulted with my doctor, and I am currently undergoing treatment to manage my mental health through medication and lifestyle change, and soon will be starting therapy sessions to manage my mental health conditions and regain a stable state of well-being. I am very serious and intent on working on myself to be better equipped for the next academic term, as I really do want to work hard and succeed academically.
I am more than willing to meet with you to discuss this matter further, should it be the case that you require any additional information or clarification. Please find attached a letter from my Doctor, Dr. Andrea McKnight regarding my diagnosis for generalized anxiety and major depressive disorder, as well as a letter stating how this diagnosis is expected to affect my academic performance.
I cannot thank you enough for your attention to this matter. I deeply appreciate your understanding and consideration. I await your decision and hope for a favorable response to my petition.
Sincerely,
Cherri Martinez
