Petition Letter
Hello, dear officer! My name is Gao Yuyang. Due to family reasons, my mental health has been troubled. Last year, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent surgery. In October last year, my grandfather suddenly died of the disease. Faced with this situation, I was devastated and overwhelmed and began to suffer from chronic depression. Especially my mother's illness makes me feel very scared every day. I often have insomnia or cry, mainly because I am afraid of losing my mother. This mood and insomnia prevent me from concentrating on one thing or studying. At the same time, I didn’t dare to tell other family members about my fears, because I was worried that my grandparents on my mother's side were old and in poor health, so I didn’t dare to let them know. So, I started seeking help from my school counselor. However, around March 2023, my parents’ relationship and marriage started to have serious problems. This was the heaviest blow to me. I began to fall into a long-term uncontrollable depression. I began not to go out or contact friends. It can be said that I lay in bed crying almost every day. I often reminisce about the good old days, but every time I feel so painfully aware of the reality of the situation. The psychological problems even affected my physical health, as I would suffer from abdominal pain and vomiting when I lost control of my emotions. Severe psychological problems caused me to be unable to study and take exams because I was completely unable to concentrate on anything for a long time. In late August, after speaking with my counselor, she concluded that I was suicidal and strongly recommended that I see a psychiatrist and consider taking medication to control it. Currently, I am working hard to adjust myself, actively seeking help from friends, and am ready to take medication when necessary. I hope the school can give me the opportunity to postpone the exam and help me graduate on time. I will also make sure to complete all make-up exams before the end of the semester. Thanks for your understanding.
