Academic Plan
Upon returning to my studies, I intend to change my major, and hope to pursue a degree in either sociology or biology. I am planning on booking an appointment with an academic adviser to help me decide which path I will be best suited for, and to decide the appropriate courses which I should enroll in. I am currently taking online prerequisites for both majors in order to keep my options open.
I have been struggling with mental health related issues the past several years, which have distracted me from my studies and have had a huge impact on my grades. I have begun to take medication for my conditions, which has made it much easier for me to focus on my studies. I have discussed the possibility of increasing my dosage with my physician, and will continue to make frequent appointments to monitor my health condition. I am also going to receive counselling, and plan on making an appointment with Learning Strategies in Stauffer Library to learn tools to help me deal with exam anxiety.
I am now registered with Disability Services, and will be receiving exam accommodations which should allow me to perform much better on tests and exams. I am also considering taking on a lighter course load in the fall, and will discuss this possibility with my physician and an academic adviser closer to the start of the school year.
Overall, I believe that all of these changes will allow me to be successful academically in the coming school year.
Thank you,
Avery Barre
