Petition Letter
Hi there,
My name is Nathan Hluchan and I am a second-year student majoring in Political Science with a minor in Film. Recently, I have been struggling to maintain my workload due to the extenuating circumstances of my mental health. At the beginning of the summer, I was having severe anxiety attacks, which led to them happening daily. Through many check-ins with my doctor and looking into therapists, I had bettered myself to some extent. I had started taking an anti-anxiety medication named Prozac to help calm the anxiety. I had become better by the end of the summer, but when I got to school, it was hard to manage my time and work on completing all of my assignments. I had felt very unmotivated, and it was almost as if I had forgotten one of my classes completely and when my assignments were due, even when I would write them down. To help myself get through this, I booked an appointment with student wellness to have a discussion on what has been going on. After the first five minutes, the therapist, (Peter Kirby), had asked me if anyone had ever suggested I may have ADHD. After further thinking about the summer and how my anxiety took root in my life, all of the hyperfixations and stress made sense. It had calmed me a lot, but in one of my classes, (Film 240), I had been severely lacking in keeping up with the workload. I am actively looking towards ADHD testing, to hopefully be able to go on medication to help my situation. All that I am asking is if I can drop my Film course without having the mark on my overall GPA. I am trying my best to do well in order to hopefully go on exchange next year and I am very worried with my other marks as is.
Thank you for listening, and your consideration,
Nathan Hluchan
