An Appeal Letter to the Associate Dean (Studies) for a credit standing in ECON 222 taken during the Winter 2015 semester.
To whom it may concern at the Associate Dean (Studies) office,
I am submitting an appeal for a credit standing in Macroeconomics Theory II (ECON 222) in which I received a D+ grade. I believe that a large reason for this low grade was the sudden illness I got two days before my final on April 21st.
After completing an exam on the 18th, I had a few remaining days to study for this exam however I started feeling feverish, with mild headaches that proceeded to get worse. Even after taking flu medication, it was hard to study. I mentioned this to my parents who also advised me against getting an exam deferral as I would have to leave for home after this exam. I also felt I did not have enough time to go get a note from a clinic in the event I was not granted a deferral and would have to proceed with the exam. I hoped I would still get a passing grade enough to get a C in the class, as it is a required course for my medial.
After arriving home, I did go to the clinic and found out that the reason for my illness was for a virus I contracted during the week, for which I was prescribed anti-viral medication. Due to the illness, along with unfortunate scheduling of the exam and the one prior to it (which resulted in less study time), my illness made my mark in the class much lower. I worked hard all term, with generally high marks on the assignments, however, the 50 exam severally lowered my grade. In the future I hope to put in more time to study for highly weighted exams as well as speak with my professor if problems arise right before an exam.
Thank you for your consideration and time,
Ankita Paris.
