Petition Letter
To the Dean of Arts and Sciences,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to petition for a status of late withdrawal from the course PHIL 301, Bioethics, taken in Fall 2022.
I have been dealing with clinically diagnosed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for quite some time, and unfortunately, the challenges associated with this condition have been further exacerbated by the effects of the ongoing pandemic. As a result, managing academic responsibilities has been especially demanding.
In approaching receiving accommodations for PHIL 301, I was not as thorough as I should have been. I missed the deadline to submit or waive the deadline for the doctors form necessary to support the request. This resulted in a failing grade in the course as my last two essays (which were the majority of the coursework) did not get marked given my request for academic consideration was not approved.
In particular the OCD has made digital communication disproportionately anxiety inducing over the last couple of years. I have struggled to stay on top of my e-mail and OnQ in ways that have deeply impacted my academic performance. Going into 2024, I am seeking professional help to allow me to function properly as a student in a time where so much necessary information for schoolwork is delivered online. I was not registered with QSAS at this time. I have now gone through the registration process and hope it allows me to succeed despite the challenges my disability presents.
I appreciate your consideration of this request. Thank you for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
Padraig Greene
