Petition Letter
On January 25th, I made the decision to drop all of my six courses in SOLUS. There were a number of factors that contributed to that specific decision. Two notable things which had a significant impact were the separation of my parents this past summer and the death of my cat of 14 years. This added significant instability in that it removed two integral parts of my life which had been constant for more or less all of my living memory. The psychological effect of this was to cause me to not be able to focus nearly as well and that was impacting my studies. Additionally, ever since the beginning of the school year in September, I have noted an increasing level of anxiety, personally. This has been troubling because it makes it difficult for me to be in large group settings like these classes. Even for smaller amounts of people in smaller spaces, it still is tricky to focus on the work that is to be done without getting caught up in analyzing things. This makes it difficult to be a part of projects and things that are required to be done in a group, such as the group assignment portions of CISC/CMPE 322/326 and CISC 352 that I was previously registered in. Lastly, the mere fact that I was enrolled in six courses itself was highly likely contributing to the general feeling of being overwhelmed and overloaded that I am experiencing. To try and deal with this all, my thoughts were that I could drop them all and not have to deal with everything all at once. I have also set up an appointment with a psychiatrist which ought to be occurring sometime next week to hopefully set a more concrete plan for dealing with things going on, mentally.
