Petition Letter
I am petitioning to drop the course GEOL 543 late due to extenuating circumstances since the start of the school year that have prevented me from progressing throughout the course. Dr. Gema Olivo was supervising my thesis work along with Agatha Dobosz and Chris Spencer who runs the thesis course.
Since the beginning of the school year I have been struggling with addiction and other physical ailments that have prevented me from succeeding in the honours thesis as I haven't been healthy enough to do the same quality of work I am able to when I am not suffering from these physical setbacks.
This includes the research work that would have been required as well as the laboratory work that would have been completed during GEOL 543. Since I have been better able to communicate these issues with both supportive family and friends, my support system has immensely helped me begin my recovery. However there is not enough time in the school year for me to complete what is expected to be finished over the span of 8 months even if I am back to 100% soon.
My inability to complete my thesis coursework because of these extenuating circumstances has been frustrating, and if this petition to drop the course past the academic deadline is granted; I know I will be better able to handle the rest of my course load this winter 2024 semester, and also take a burden off my mental health.
