Petition Letter
In fall 2023 when I was completing my fall semester courses, including Hist 443, I experienced extenuating circumstances that led to psychological challenges that impacted my ability to complete all academic responsibilities. Where previously taking 3 courses was manageable to me, things became too much to complete all three courses academic requirements and personal steps needed to recover from the extenuating circumstances. The extenuating circumstances made it difficult for me to complete most academic obligations for Hist 443 past November 2023, when most of the course activities were due November-December 2023. The events took place in November 2023 and I became aware of how they were impacting my psychological state and academic obligations in December 2023, at which point I reached out to Student Wellness Services and met with a counsellor on December 9th. The counsellor worked to support me in recovering, seeking social support and looking into options for making an academic plan. Since then I have sought the support of personal counsellors to work through this extenuating circumstance. The psychological challenges took place after the drop deadline, and to be honest it made it difficult for me to think about the long term consequences of falling behind in my courses, as I was consumed by my current state at the time. I was able to catch up with my other two courses that semester, where I had already completed coursework for, but was still not in a state to make an academic plan for Hist 443.
