Petition Letter
To whom this may concern,
Unforeseen mental health conditions and the death of my grandmother have impacted my studies during the winter 2024 semester. At the beginning of February, I noticed my condition was affecting my overall health and wellbeing making it extremely hard to focus on my studies. I could not engage in coursework and was struggling to attend class. I made an appointment with a mental health counselor through student wellness to take proactive steps to avoid falling behind in my coursework and was granted accommodations. During this time I also had to leave Kingston before reading week to spend time with my grandmother who passed away on February 17th. Due to these circumstances, I have fallen behind in my coursework and have been struggling to catch up.
After having discussions with the mental health counselor and my doctor I have been able to come up with a plan to hopefully drop these four courses and continue with two that seem manageable. I have been getting the support that I need as well as working towards bettering my health. I have also reached out to my professors to notify them about my situation and have been working with them to salvage some of my semester.
Let me know if you require more information than what has been provided.
Thank you,
Paige Maddick
